The fantastic Lisa Solomon is speaking next week at CCA’s Textile department, those of you in Oakland/the Bay Area should try to make it, it’s sure to be great. Details: Wednesday, March 14th, at 7pm, 5301 Broadway, Oakland. I’m going to try to make it, but have a nagging feeling there’s an event that night that I have to attend for work, so we’ll have to see (this is why I need to get better about putting events from my work calendar onto my Palm.)
Lisa is also currently showing at the Richard Levy Gallery in Albuquerque, and will be there for the closing on April 7th, so if you’re thinking of a trip to New Mexico (possibly my favorite state outside of California) now would be a good time.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Lisa’s work, treat yourself and spend some time looking around her website. I especially love the pieces she’s done with rifle targets. Above: Mended Target – Pink Petal Stitch Below: Coagulant Rifle Targets, vintage rifle targets with watercolor paintings of flowers used traditionally to stop bleeding and in wound care. Amazing.
